Dear Fellow Republican,
I'm writing to let you know that I am running for Mount Vernon City Council - Ward 4. I'm making this announcement now because it is expected that the incumbent council member, Jeff Gottke, will announce his resignation tonight. Mr. Gottke has taken a position with the Area Development Foundation, which receives funds from the city, and will be unable to continue in his current role. We wish Mr. Gottke good luck in this exciting new position.
I plan to seek the appointment to the vacancy and to also run in the Republican primary, regardless of whom the 3 members of the Knox County Republican Central Committee appoint to this seat. And unlike others who may seek this appointment, I am legally eligible to take it. Under Ohio law you must reside in the ward for at least one year before being elected, or appointed, to the seat. I purchased my current home in the ward and moved in over 8 years ago.
Recent events have clearly shown that while it is important to elect new people to city council, it is also important that their backgrounds and experience be more seriously vetted. And while my background and experience is not without some minor blemishes, I am a very known quantity.
What you see and hear from me is what you get.
I am an unabashed supporter of freedom and liberty at every level of government. I proudly opposed the recent Mount Vernon City Income Tax Increase and I proudly oppose the current effort to convert Mount Vernon into a charter city.
I will always work, as I have done for over 32 years now, to limit taxes and government spending, all while maximizing freedom. To learn more about me, then please visit my website at www.scottpullins.org. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Scott Pullins
